Currently, there is no county-adopted policy or set of guidelines specific to the approval of short-term, vacation rentals in the Baywood-Los Osos area. However, Vacation Rental Guidelines for Los Osos were approved by the Los Osos Community Advisory Council in June of 2018 and forwarded to the county for consideration. At this time, owners who wish to use their property as a vacation rental apply to the County for a minor use permit. Each permit is considered on a case-by-case basis. In August 2017, CEPOA went on record as opposed to vacation rentals in Cabrillo Estates.
NEIGHBORS FOR LOS OSOS, which describes itself as "like-minded community members who see a need for vacation rental guidelines in order to preserve the character of our neighborhoods," has launched a website and petition to urge the County Board of Supervisors to adopt the LOCAC guidelines.
